Sonam Bajwa Shares Her Love for Langar’s Kaali Daal This Guru Nanak Jayanti
Sonam Bajwa Reflects on Celebrating Gurpurab
For the talented Sonam Bajwa, known for her work in Punjabi cinema, the festival of Gurpurab has deep personal significance, even though she has never resided in Punjab. Bajwa’s connection to this festival resonates through her childhood experiences.
“I was born in Uttarakhand and raised in UP, where my grandparents settled. I vividly remember participating in Prabhat Pheris every Guru Nanak Jayanti. The excitement I felt from morning to night was unparalleled,” she recalls fondly.
Bajwa further shares, “Our school granted us a special holiday for the occasion, but we still went to partake in the festivities and offer prayers throughout the day. The anticipation of indulging in delicious Kada Prasad, boondi, and laddoos was always thrilling.”
Growing up in a devout family, Sonam mentions, “My mother is an amritdhari and continues to engage in sewa. Though I don’t have specific memories of performing sewa myself, it was a significant part of my upbringing.”
Favorite Festival Treats
A highlight of her memories is the beloved langar: “I always adored the famous kaali daal and phulka. It seems like no matter how you try to replicate it at home, it never captures the same essence.”

Changes and Celebrations
These days, the festivities feel different for Sonam, especially with her busy shooting schedule. “Celebrating festivals has changed dramatically now that I’m in the industry. This year, I’ll be working on Gurpurab in Punjab. The nature of my profession means I often find myself working during significant events,” she reflects.
This year also marks Bajwa’s debut in the Hindi film industry with appearances in notable films like Baaghi 4, Housefull 5, and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, expanding her artistic horizons.
