SHEIN Teams Up with UED to Empower Rising Fashion Designers

SHEIN Strengthens Collaboration with European University of Design

SHEIN has enhanced its partnership with the European University of Design (UED) in Pescara, Italy, unveiling a new scholarship aimed at supporting budding Italian fashion designers. This collaboration underscores a mutual dedication to fostering education, innovation, and professional development among young creatives in the fashion world.

Scholarship Awarded During UED Fashion Night

The scholarship was introduced at the university’s annual UED Fashion Night, with third-year Fashion Design student Denis Cipriani as the recipient. A panel comprising industry experts and SHEIN representatives selected Cipriani, who will embark on a year of specialization at UED, further honing his design capabilities for a successful career.

Building on Successful Initiatives

This initiative is part of SHEIN’s ongoing efforts, following the success of the 2024 SHEIN x UED Campus Event, which featured workshops on sustainability and creative storytelling. The scholarship is seen as an essential component of a larger conversation between education and the fashion sector, a relationship SHEIN is actively nurturing in Italy.

Voices of Commitment

“We are thrilled to renew our partnership with UED, an institution that embodies our commitment to nurturing creativity, dedication, and talent in emerging generations,” said Alessandra Bonito Oliva, PR Associate Director Italy at SHEIN, in a press release. “We collaborate with young talents to provide real opportunities for self-expression, challenges, and learning.”

A Night to Remember for Graduating Students

In addition to honoring the academic year, UED Fashion Night showcased the work of graduating students. Over 1,000 guests, including family members, alumni, and industry partners, attended the event to witness the students’ runway presentations. A highlight reel from the 2024 SHEIN workshop was also shared, emphasizing the deepening relationship between the retailer and the university.

A Significant Investment in Creativity

Angela di Girolamo, Head of UED’s Fashion Department, remarked that the scholarship is “much more than an award,” describing it as “a tangible investment in the creative future of those who dare to dream, explore, and express themselves through their style.”

SHEIN’s Evolving Role in Fashion Education

As SHEIN increases its involvement with fashion education institutions across Europe, the company is not only positioning itself as a disruptor within the global fashion industry but also as a significant player in design education. Despite the scrutiny of its fast fashion model from environmental and labor advocates, this initiative indicates an interest in aligning with the evolving values of responsible innovation and creative empowerment.

Bridging the Gap Between Education and Industry

Both SHEIN and UED view their partnership as a proactive response to the shifting landscape of fashion education, striving to connect classroom learning with industry expectations and shaping the future generation of designers.
