Justin Baldoni’s Lawsuit Against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Dismissed
Justin Baldoni’s $400 million lawsuit against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds is officially dismissed.
Director and actor Justin Baldoni’s $400 million lawsuit, alleging extortion and defamation against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, has been dismissed. The court ruled this outcome was due to Baldoni’s failure to meet a mandated deadline for amending his claims.
Dismissal of Justin Baldoni’s Lawsuit
On October 31, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman confirmed that Baldoni and his company Wayfarer Studios had missed their chance to revive the legal battle. The judge noted that the plaintiffs did not respond to a court order issued on October 17, leading to the case’s closure.
This decision follows an earlier dismissal of Baldoni’s complaint in June 2025. The court found that his defamation allegations were lacking in merit, indicating that statements referred to in the lawsuit were protected under legal and journalistic privilege.
Although this ruling concludes his claims against Lively, Reynolds, and The New York Times, Baldoni has the option to appeal, particularly regarding Lively’s request for legal fees.
Background on the Lawsuit
Baldoni filed the contentious lawsuit in January 2025, labeling it as a counterattack amid escalating tensions in Hollywood. This legal action came shortly after Blake Lively accused Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios of sexual harassment and retaliation stemming from their collaboration on the film *It Ends With Us,* which Baldoni directed.
In her lawsuit, Lively detailed troubling on-set conduct, including an incident where Baldoni allegedly made inappropriate comments about her and her marriage to Ryan Reynolds.
