Youngjin Choe Celebrated with 2025 Lichting Award at Amsterdam Fashion Week

The prestigious Lichting award for the most outstanding graduate collection has been awarded. Youngjin Choe, an alumnus of ArtEZ, captured the title during the recent fashion showcase at Amsterdam Fashion Week.

### Collection Inspiration

Choe’s collection, titled *Duality of Light*, draws deeply from personal experiences. He shares a poignant message from his father during tougher times: “The pain that exists in the world has different widths and depths. It is not visible on the outside and its extent is unpredictable, so no one can understand or empathise with the pain. However, light can fill that large space, so I will become your light and fill your pain.” This profound insight fueled Choe’s exploration of light, alongside inspirations from his Korean heritage.

### Jury’s Praise

The Lichting jury commended Choe for intertwining tradition with a sense of rebellion. They characterized his creations as “royal yet understated,” showcasing “a silent struggle between elegance and discomfort.”

### Finalists of Lichting 2025

Choe was not the only remarkable talent at Lichting 2025. Other notable finalists included Bobby Beltz, Dorka Szabo, Eva Popa, Gijs van Herwaarden, Hiromu Takeshita, Jamie Lugtenberg, Karolina Wójtowicz, Magdalena Weigel, and Tijn Roozen.
