YKK Unveils Eco-Friendly Zipper Innovations at Expo 2025 with University of Fukui

## YKK Corporation’s Sustainable Initiative
YKK Corporation has made an exciting announcement about supplying eco-friendly zippers for the University of Fukui’s Fukumira Design Factory. This initiative is set to be showcased at the upcoming Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The exhibit, themed “Science: Connecting You to the Future,” is supported by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and will take place from August 14 to August 19.
### The Fukumira Design Factory Experience
Situated in the “Connect with the Earth” zone, the Fukumira Design Factory will offer an interactive display. Visitors will have the chance to witness the transformation of clothing patterns as they undergo a unique process of decolorization and re-dyeing through supercritical fluid technology, which eliminates the need for water. Prominently featured will be YKK’s ECO-DYE® zippers that utilize this innovative, water-free dyeing method.
### Understanding ECO-DYE® Technology
ECO-DYE® technology employs carbon dioxide in a supercritical state for dye application. This revolutionary approach significantly reduces water consumption compared to conventional techniques. YKK champions this technology as part of its “Cycle of Goodness®” philosophy, which promotes shared prosperity through conscientious innovation.
### Bridging Education and Sustainability
This collaboration illustrates the vital connection between sustainable materials science and educational advancement. For educators and institutions engaged in textile, environmental, or industrial design, this project serves as an inspiring model of academic and industry partnership, emphasizing sustainability and practical learning.
