Vishnu Vishal on the Pressure of Naming His Next Film Aaryan
Insights from Vishnu Vishal on his upcoming film Aaryan
It’s been three years since Vishnu Vishal starred solo in the film Gatta Kusthi. His recent project, Lal Salaam, which released in 2024, was overwhelmed by the presence of Rajinikanth. Meanwhile, Oho Enthan Baby, came across more as an introduction to his brother Rudra’s career rather than a spotlight on his own.
Set to premiere in theaters on October 31, Aaryan is a thriller that Vishnu is keen to differentiate from his 2018 success, Ratsasan. He even donned a T-shirt during promotions reading ‘not Ratsasan’. “I’ve emphasized that Aaryan should not be compared to Ratsasan, as such comparisons could undermine its potential,” Vishnu shared.
The Pressure of Naming Aaryan
Discussing the film, Vishnu describes the concept as thrilling, though he remains tight-lipped about many details. “Conveying this story cinematically has been quite the journey. Understanding the audience’s expectations is crucial, and I’m determined to provide them an exciting experience with Aaryan.” He added, “The choice to title the film after my son was a heartfelt decision, yet it carries its own weight now.” Vishnu expressed a sense of pressure, emphasizing his desire for the project to succeed.
The actor mentioned that his son, Aryan, made a cute appearance at an event, dressed as a police officer. “Initially, I had other titles in mind, but I pushed for this name as it resonates deeply with the story.” He continued, “Emotional attachment fuels my resolve, yet I feel the weight of expectations for the film’s success.”
Vishnu Vishal Critiques Kollywood’s Support
Vishnu expressed hopes that Aaryan garners appropriate recognition from both the audience and the Tamil film community. He noted, “The industry has room for everyone. I often reach out to those whose work I admire, but I sometimes feel overlooked.” He added, “While I don’t seek accolades, I do value honest critique.”
Reflecting on past projects that achieved success, he shared, “For films like Ratsasan and Gatta Kusthi, I had to persuade producers to come on board. The industry’s nature sometimes makes the journey tougher than expected. Healthy competition can foster growth, but I wish I had received more acknowledgment in my early career.”
Advice for Brother Rudra
When asked about his brother, Rudra, Vishnu acknowledged the privileges he enjoys in comparison to his own journey. “I urged him to be grateful for his opportunities and to maintain humility. His debut, Oho Enthan Baby, didn’t perform well initially, but it found success on streaming platforms.” Vishnu reinforced the need for Rudra to pursue potent concepts and to remain grounded.
As for his future endeavors, Vishnu mentioned he is optimistic about several upcoming projects. “There are at least five or six films lined up, including a sequel to Gatta Kusthi, which will showcase my growth as a producer. The competition is intense, but my goal is to continually deliver engaging content.”
With Aaryan set for release, what are your thoughts on Vishnu Vishal’s approach to pressure in the film industry?
