TVNZ Announces New 6PM News Presenter Following Simon Dallow's Departure

Melissa Stokes has been appointed as the new presenter for 1News at Six, following Simon Dallow’s announcement to step down at the end of the month.

Dallow’s Legacy

Simon Dallow has been the voice of TVNZ’s news segment for nearly 20 years, covering major events such as the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes and the Covid pandemic, as well as Cyclone Gabrielle.

TVNZ Chief Executive Jodi O’Donnell expressed gratitude for Dallow’s years of dedication, noting his professionalism and integrity. “His contributions have solidified the show’s status, drawing in a million viewers on broadcast TV and being the top streamed show on TVNZ+,” O’Donnell noted.

Dallow, who began his career at TVNZ in 1993, previously worked as a barrister. He initially co-hosted the 6 pm news bulletin with Wendy Petrie after appearing on various other programs.

Recognizing Dallow’s Impact

O’Donnell stated, “His departure marks the end of an era for 1News at Six,” thanking him for his years of service. Dallow’s calm demeanor has earned the trust and respect of New Zealand audiences and his commitment to accurate news coverage is greatly appreciated.

As his tenure concludes, Dallow plans to step down on November 28.

Melissa Stokes’ New Role

Stokes will transition from her weekend presenting duties to anchor the weekday bulletin.

With over two decades of experience at TVNZ, she has taken on a range of reporting roles and served as the 1News Europe Correspondent.

According to O’Donnell, Stokes is immensely respected by viewers, having present 1News programs since 2019. “We are fortunate to have someone of her caliber leading our flagship evening news program,” she stated.
