Slipknot Marks 25th Anniversary with Deluxe Edition of Debut Album

Slipknot Celebrates 25 Years of Metal Legacy
Slipknot is taking a nostalgic plunge to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album. They have unveiled the Slipknot (25th Anniversary Edition), a special deluxe reissue of the self-titled album originally released in 1999 — the record that catapulted them from Iowa’s shadows into the international metal spotlight.
A Landmark Release
Set to be released on September 5th through Roadrunner Records, this edition showcases the band’s artistic journey during a critical era in heavy music. At that time, their nine-member ensemble reshaped the definition of metal, influencing countless artists and fans alike.
Multiple Formats and Exclusive Content
The anniversary release comes in several formats: a limited 6LP box set on blood-splattered vinyl, a 2LP, 2CD, and a digital version. It features the original album produced by Ross Robinson, along with a treasure trove of unreleased demos, alternate takes, and early mixes recorded in studios like Indigo Ranch and SR Audio. For the most dedicated fans, Slipknot secretly released 100 vinyl editions filled with blood, selling out almost instantly and causing a temporary crash on their hidden website.
Reflecting on Initial Success
Guitarist Jim Root reflected on their journey, saying, “We loved what we did with the first record, but we didn’t know if there was going to be anything after that. Just getting people to hear it felt like a monumental achievement. Selling out of records and shows was a goal, but living the dream was something we never expected.”
Live Performances Included
The deluxe reissue also features live recordings from the band’s inaugural world tour. Highlights include a raw performance from the 1999 Hartford show and electrifying sets from the UK and Iowa in 2000. These tracks reveal Slipknot’s evolution from a chaotic underground act to a festival powerhouse.
Raw Demo Release
As a sneak peek, the band has released a previously unheard demo of “Prosthetics,” captured before they entered Indigo Ranch. This early rendition provides a fascinating glimpse into the song’s transformation into the industrial sound that defines their first album.
The Impact of the Debut Album
Released on June 29, 1999, Slipknot’s debut wasn’t merely loud; it initiated a revolution. Featuring intense riffs, relentless rhythms, and a raw sense of release, the album shattered genre boundaries, achieving double platinum status with the help of vigorous touring and a fast-growing fanbase.
Continuing Success and Global Tours
Over the years, Slipknot has garnered billions of streams and received 64 award nominations, including a Grammy win. They’ve become a mainstay at major festivals like Download, Rock in Rio, and Hellfest, and even launched Knotfest, their very own touring festival, in 2012.
A Personal Connection with Fans
Despite all their accolades, the band is focused on celebrating their 25th anniversary by reconnecting with their dedicated fans. Founding percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan expressed, “Every time I’ve walked on stage, it’s never been about how many people were there because my culture, the maggots, always show up.”
A Special Gift for Fans
Following a sold-out "Here Comes the Pain" world tour, which included a triumphant return to Knotfest Iowa, this anniversary edition is a heartfelt gesture for fans who have supported Slipknot since day one.
