Shashi Tharoor Responds to Accusations of Paid Film Reviews in Bollywood
After Shashi Tharoor shared a glowing review of The Ba***ds of Bollywood, trolls accused him of writing a paid review. Here’s what the MP has to say about it
When Congress MP Shashi Tharoor finds himself at a loss for words, it usually signals something significant—either exceptionally good or bad. In this instance, it was the former, thanks to Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, the series The Ba***ds of Bollywood. Over the weekend, Tharoor expressed his admiration for the show, calling it ‘absolute #OTT GOLD’ and a ‘masterpiece’ that left him ‘irresistibly hooked’. While many applauded Aryan Khan’s efforts, some online critics accused Tharoor of promoting a paid review. Tharoor has since responded to these allegations.
In light of Shashi Tharoor’s enthusiastic review, which included a heartfelt message to Shah Rukh Khan, he faced a wave of criticism from netizens. Comments ranged from accusations of paid endorsements to questions about the political influences behind his praise. One user remarked, “Are you doing paid tweets for Bollywood?” while another suggested it was “Paid PR” from the @iamsrk team. Responding to these claims, Tharoor asserted, “I’m not for sale, my friend. No opinion I express has ever been paid for by anybody, in cash or in kind.”
In his review, Tharoor noted: “Just finished watching Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’, and I’m left grasping for words of praise. The writing is sharp, the direction is fearless, and this satire audaciously critiques the industry. With the humor and insider jokes, it’s a look into the heart of Bollywood that’s both hilarious and poignant. Aryan Khan—you’ve truly delivered a masterpiece! @iamsrk: from one father to another, let me say: you must be so proud!!”
Have you had a chance to watch Aryan’s show yet? What are your thoughts on it?
