Vijay Asks Madras High Court for Independent Probe into Karur Stampede
Vijay’s Legal Move in Response to Karur Tragedy
Following a tragic incident during a Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) rally that resulted in 39 deaths and left 95 injured, actor Vijay has approached the Madras High Court. His political party is now seeking an independent inquiry into the stampede that occurred on Saturday.
Call for an Independent Inquiry
Reports indicate that the judge has acknowledged the urgent petition and that the case is expected to be heard on Monday, despite the court’s puja holidays. The TVK claims that there are conspiracies surrounding the incident and is advocating for a suo motu investigation by an independent agency.
This development follows comments from Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, who stated that a Commission led by retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan would be visiting Karur to investigate the stampede.
Previous Court Concerns
Earlier this August, the TVK sought permission from the High Court to conduct rallies. During that review, the court emphasized the need for accountability in the event of incidents like the recent stampede. The court stressed that Vijay should ensure legal compliance during gatherings and suggested that certain vulnerable groups avoid attending.
The Impact of the Karur Stampede
The unfortunate stampede occurred at a rally organized by the TVK in Karur. According to officials, 95 individuals were hospitalized, with 51 receiving treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital. Most victims are reported to be in stable condition, except for one case. Tragically, 39 lives were lost.
In response, both Vijay and the TVK have announced a compensation package of ₹20 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹2 lakh for those injured.
