Pankaj Tripathi Reflects on Nostalgic Diwali Celebrations in Bijli
Pankaj Tripathi reflects on the simple and lovely ways his hometown in Bihar celebrated Diwali.
As one of the most in-demand actors today, Pankaj Tripathi remains deeply connected to his roots in Belsand, Gopalgunj, Bihar. With the festive season of Diwali approaching, he fondly recalls how the festival was celebrated in his childhood.
“We used to light earthen lamps filled with cotton wicks. It was a natural and serene celebration,” Pankaj shares. Unlike modern urban festivities, fireworks were sparingly used in his village.
“In our village, the noise from fireworks could scare the animals, so we didn’t have many. Instead, we enjoyed sparklers and the glow from our lamps,” he notes.
The celebrations included homemade food that was simple yet delightful. Though Pankaj moved to Mumbai to pursue his acting career, those memories remain dear to him.
“We would light the lamps at home and enjoy the view from a distance. There’s a unique joy in seeing your home lit by those lamps that electric lights can’t replicate,” he reflects.
This year, he has entrusted the planning of Diwali festivities to his wife and daughter, saying, “I simply join in on their plans.”
