Naga Vamsi on War 2: Trusting YRF Blindly Led to Misfire
Naga Vamsi comments on the box office misfire of War 2
Jr NTR’s Bollywood debut in War 2 with Hrithik Roshan has faced a challenging box office outcome. Producer Naga Vamsi addresses the trolling he endured post-release.
Telugu superstar Jr NTR made a significant Bollywood debut alongside Hrithik Roshan in YRF’s War 2. Despite high anticipation, the film failed to meet box office expectations. Naga Vamsi, the producer responsible for distributing the film in Telugu markets, has openly discussed its shortcomings, admitting he trusted YRF “blindly.”
Naga Vamsi on War 2’s performance
While promoting his upcoming film Mass Jathara, Naga Vamsi joined actor Ravi Teja for a discussion with director Kalyan Shankar on Sithara Entertainments’ YouTube channel. He candidly addressed War 2’s box office failure, stating, “Mistakes happen. Everyone makes mistakes at some point. Aditya Chopra is one of the top producers in Indian cinema. NTR and I placed our trust in YRF blindly, but it misfired.”
He also reflected on being trolled for a film he didn’t produce, saying, “The mistake is on their side, but we faced the consequences (laughs). We weren’t involved in the production. I take comfort in knowing that the negative feedback wasn’t for a project of ours.” Prior to the film’s release, Naga Vamsi encouraged audiences to support the Telugu version, hoping it would outperform the Hindi version on opening day, yet the film fell short during its debut weekend.
Details about War 2
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is the sixth installment in YRF’s spy universe. It stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in the lead, with Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana in key roles. The film had a promising start, generating ₹52 crore on its first day; however, mixed to negative reviews led to a swift decline in revenue by its first Monday.
The film was released alongside Rajinikanth’s Coolie, ultimately raking in just ₹236.55 crore net within India, and ₹364.35 crore globally, against an estimated budget of ₹400 crore.
About Mass Jathara
Directed by Bhanu Bhogavarapu, Mass Jathara is produced by Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. The film features Sreeleela, Ravi Teja, and Nitish Nirmal in pivotal roles, along with Ritu P Sood and Rajendra Prasad in important parts. It is set to premiere in theaters on October 31.
