Jenny and Lola Share Movie Insights
During a recent appearance on *The Today Show*, author and showrunner Jenny Han, along with lead star Lola Tung, confirmed the much-anticipated news. This announcement follows the emotional conclusion of the Season 3 finale that aired on September 17.
When prompted about the film, Tung, 22, mentioned, “Not much, but we’ve known for a while. It’s nice that it’s finally public. I think Jenny has all the insights.”
Han indicated that the film will focus on “another significant milestone for Belly,” hinting at possible wedding themes, creating a buzz around the storyline.
Though details remain under wraps, Han noted a first draft of the script has already been completed. “It’s still too early to discuss a release date, but it won’t be next year. There’s still work to be done,” she clarified.
Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that both Lola Tung (Belly) and Christopher Briney (Conrad) will return, ensuring fan-favorite characters bridge their adolescence and adulthood seamlessly.
Han articulated the reasoning behind a movie format: “A film allows us to fully honor the story; it’s an opportunity to conclude in a way that feels both special and complete.”
Season 3 Recap
The third season adapted *We’ll Always Have Summer*, the final book in Han’s trilogy but featured several notable differences. Unlike the novel’s engagement storyline set at Cousins Beach, the series opted for a cinematic approach. In the finale, Belly cancels her wedding to Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and is later surprised by Conrad, who appears in Paris. Their romantic day ends with heartfelt confessions and a glimpse into their future together.
Belly and Conrad’s Future
The upcoming movie appears set to delve deeper into the relationship dynamics between Belly and Conrad. Fans eagerly anticipate a more mature and emotional conclusion as they’ve followed these characters from their teenage years. With Jenny Han at the helm and the original cast returning, the film is poised to provide a satisfying finale, encapsulating Belly’s coming-of-age journey.
