Mark Snow, renowned for crafting unforgettable television scores, including the haunting theme for The X Files, has passed away at the age of 78, as confirmed by his representative.
While the cause of death hasn’t been disclosed, the Hollywood publication Variety reported that he died on Friday (July 4) at his home in Connecticut.
Snow’s iconic theme for The X Files, released as a single in 1996, gained international acclaim. He was the mastermind behind the music for over 200 episodes and both feature films of this beloved science fiction series featuring two paranormal investigators from the FBI.

Born Martin Fulterman on August 26, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, Snow studied at the notable Juilliard School.
His career in television music began in the late 1970s, during which he earned 15 Emmy nominations.
Beyond The X Files, his contributions to other U.S. television shows include memorable scores for Blue Bloods, Smallville, and Hart to Hart.
According to Variety, he is survived by his wife Glynnis, along with three daughters and grandchildren.
