Jen Cloher Unveils Season Two of Māori & First Nations Podcast

Jen Cloher’s Podcast Returns for a Second Season

Jen Cloher has exciting news: their podcast, Everybody’s Trying to Find Their Way Home, is back for a second season.

Continuing the Journey

This project delves deeper into the world of Māori and First Nations songwriters, focusing on those who create and share music in their native languages. Since launching the podcast’s first season and releasing their fifth album, Ko Au Te Awa, Ko Te Awa Ko Au, Cloher has made a significant move from Naarm (Melbourne) to Aotearoa (New Zealand). There, they are undertaking a year-long immersive Te Reo Māori course at Te Wānanga o Raukawa in Ōtaki.

Immersive Learning Experience

Cloher describes the experience of learning the Māori language as quite intense. “Rumaki means to immerse or drown,” they explain, reflecting on how this concept perfectly captures what beginners like themselves encounter.

Season Two Highlights

The first season of the podcast was well-received, garnering nominations for Best New Podcast and Best Arts & Culture Podcast at the Australian Podcast Awards. It even featured a special live episode as part of the Wheeler Centre’s Spring Fling program.

In the new season, listeners can expect to meet a remarkable array of Indigenous artists. Cloher travels to Kakadu alongside Shellie Morris, delving into the heritage of the Borroloola Songwomen. They also visit Whirimako Black in Ruatoki to discuss the long delay of her debut album, Hinepukohurangi (Shrouded in the Mist).

Additional Conversations

The season further showcases a range of engaging conversations, including a truck ride with Byllie-jean to discuss her award-winning debut album and a late-night meal with Jordyn at a 24-hour diner in South Auckland. The season wraps up with celebrations alongside Takatāpui Tuesdays and activist Te Raukura O’Connell Rapira.
