Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan recently shared a humorous yet candid incident involving his wife, Jaya Bachchan. While appearing on the popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, he recounted how Jaya left the theatre during the screening of “Mere Angne Mein” from the film Laawaris.

A Dislike for the Song

During the episode, when asked about a trait of his that his wife dislikes, Amitabh humorously remarked, “If she doesn’t like something, she speaks her mind.” He described how his outfit during the song sequence led to Jaya storming out of the theatre, expressing her disappointment.

Amitabh recalled, “While shooting for ‘Mere Angne Mein,’ I dressed as various women described in the song. When it played during a trial screening, she stood up and left the theatre. Afterward, she scolded me, saying, ‘How could you do a song like this?’”

A Lighthearted Relationship

He continued with a playful anecdote about their dynamic. “Fifteen years later, while performing that song at award shows, we invited women representing the character types from the lyrics. I joked about not needing to call anyone for the short role, as I already had one at home (referring to Jaya). When I lifted her onstage, she was more focused on wiping off lipstick from my cheek than participating!”

The Journey Together

Amitabh and Jaya’s relationship began at the Film and Television Institute of India, where their friendship blossomed into love through their shared experiences in films like Guddi and Zanjeer. They married on June 3, 1973, and have since starred in numerous iconic movies together.
