Guy Sebastian Opens Up About His Ex-Manager’s Court Case Experience

Guy Sebastian Discusses Ongoing Legal Battle
Australian singer-songwriter Guy Sebastian has shared insights about the ongoing legal tussle with his former manager, Titus Day. As he gears up for his upcoming album, 100 Times Around The Sun, this situation has overshadowed much of his recent endeavors.
Legal Proceedings and Personal Impact
Sebastian’s journey has become increasingly complicated due to a protracted court case involving allegations of embezzlement against Day. The New South Wales District Court is handling claims that Day misappropriated approximately $620,000 in performance fees and royalties due to Sebastian from 2013 to 2020. This case has witnessed multiple trials, including a recent hung jury on several charges.
In a conversation with The Music Network, Sebastian expressed his feelings about the case, stating that while many perceive it as his fight, he is merely a witness. He highlighted the challenging nature of being subpoenaed, noting that he has to appear in court regardless of his professional commitments.
Ongoing Trials and Emotional Toll
The latest jury trial recently concluded, leaving the decision on whether to pursue a third trial up to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Sebastian explained that his involvement is unique, emphasizing, “it’s him versus the Crown, and I’m just a subpoenaed witness.” He admitted the situation is perplexing for all parties involved, yet believes there are reasons for the drawn-out process.
Sebastian described the experience as “horrendous,” revealing that he has spent countless hours on the witness stand, which has been a nerve-wracking ordeal. He conveyed a strong desire for the legal issues to be resolved, stating, “I just want it to be over.”
A Positive Outlook Amidst Challenges
Despite the turmoil, Sebastian is focused on his music career. Now self-managed and leading a new label, he looks forward to upcoming performances, including appearances at the Darwin Festival and Come Together Festival.
He reflects on the bright side, saying, “My kids are healthy. I’m making art. I’m still up until 5 am doing what I love in my studio.” With the new album set to release on August 8th, Sebastian remains hopeful and determined to move past this challenging chapter of his life.
100 Times Around The Sun follows his successful album, T.R.U.T.H., which topped the ARIA Chart in November 2020.
