Foo Fighters Celebrate 30 Years with "Today’s Song"

To mark their 30th anniversary, the Foo Fighters have unveiled “Today’s Song,” their first new release in two years. This exciting update was shared by Dave Grohl on the band’s official platform, where he delivered a heartfelt 13-minute audio message reflecting on their journey.

A Reflective Tribute

In his statement, Grohl openly addressed the departure of drummer Josh Freese, who stepped in following the tragic passing of Taylor Hawkins. Grohl shared, “Over the years, we’ve faced endless joy and profound sorrow. We’ve experienced victories and defeats together. We’ve lent each other strength because life is not meant to be faced alone.”

He acknowledged the contributions of former drummers, expressing gratitude for the shared moments and music. Grohl’s recollection of meeting member Nate Mendel during Thanksgiving in 1994 highlights the band’s origin story, mentioning how a simple gathering led to forming the Foo Fighters. Their debut album was released on June 26, 1995.

Remembering Taylor Hawkins

Grohl took a moment to honor his late friend and bandmate Hawkins, stating, “Your name is cherished every day, sometimes with laughter, sometimes with tears. You remain a part of everything we do.” He emphasized that the band would forever carry Hawkins in their music.

Themes of Time in "Today’s Song"

“Today’s Song” resonates with the themes Grohl discussed, particularly regarding the passage of time. The lyrics reflect on navigating challenges, adding depth to the song’s message.

This track represents the Foo Fighters’ first original music since their 2023 album, But Here We Are. The band has recently resurfaced, gearing up for upcoming concerts in Indonesia, Singapore, and Japan, marking their return to live performances after a considerable hiatus.
