Explore the Story Behind Formula 1’s Unique Louis Vuitton Trophy Trunks
Last year, Formula 1 forged a long-term alliance with the iconic luxury brand Louis Vuitton. As the creator of the F1 trophy trunks, this esteemed French brand has quickly made its mark on the racing world, including at the recent Singapore Grand Prix in 2025.
The trophy trunk designed for the Singapore Grand Prix features a striking graphic “V”—a symbol recognized worldwide as a representation of triumph. This design, highlighted with red and white racing checks, pays homage to the circuit’s finish line, encapsulating the excitement and prestige of elite motorsports.
A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE IN TRUNK-MAKING

These trophy trunks are a testament to Louis Vuitton’s rich heritage and mastery in craftsmanship. Each trunk is meticulously crafted by the brand’s expert artisans in Asnières, near Paris, the same workshop where the very first automobile trunks were created under the guidance of Georges Vuitton.
Louis Vuitton’s long-standing connection to automotive culture played a significant role in developing its iconic materials.

In anticipation of the expanding automotive scene and travel, Georges Vuitton developed a robust canvas, later known as Vuittonite. This was designed to endure the rigors of transportation and the elements, ultimately leading to the iconic canvas associated with Louis Vuitton today.
BRINGING LUXURY TO F1

Earlier this year, Louis Vuitton celebrated the 75th anniversary of F1 by unveiling the FIA Formula One World Championship trophy trunk, designed explicitly for the season’s winner.
Additionally, customized trunks for each circuit of the 2025 Grand Prix feature unique colored stripes along the V symbol on the front, creating a distinctive look.
Each trunk displays a V symbol in checks, with hand-painted stripes specific to each F1 circuit on the exterior panels.

The interior of these luxurious trunks is elegantly finished with sleek black leather to safeguard the trophy. Each bespoke trunk features the brand’s signature “lozines”, protective corners, and clasps that have been part of Louis Vuitton’s design since the 1860s.
Pinnacle of Sports and Luxury

Louis Vuitton has been creating trunks of unparalleled quality since the mid-19th century. The brand’s storied history aligns it perfectly with prestigious sporting events, for which it has been crafting trophy trunks for over thirty years.
While these luxury cases share the brand’s signature craft and recognizable monogram or damier canvas, each design references the specific sport or tournament it represents.
Take, for instance, the trophy trunks for the French Open in 2017, which featured a terracotta interior reminiscent of the clay courts at Roland Garros. Similarly, the trunks created for the 2024 Australian Open showcased a blue lining reflecting the competition’s colors.

In 2022, the Davis Cup trophy was presented in a stunning circular Louis Vuitton trunk. This unique design allows it to sit atop the trophy’s oversized base, showcasing the award beautifully.

In addition to these significant events, Louis Vuitton has crafted remarkable trunks for prestigious international sports competitions, such as the FIFA World Cup, Ballon D’Or, America’s Cup, Rugby World Cup, and the NBA Finals.

For the upcoming Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, Louis Vuitton has been tasked with creating trunks to house the torches and medals, embodying the spirit of sportsmanship and excellence. These trunks allow for secure storage while also converting into stylish presentation cases.

The medal trunks feature a refined design inspired by the brand’s renowned Malle Coiffeuse trunk. Each one includes a central compartment and two hinged wings that open to reveal drawers specifically designed for holding 468 medals.
For over 170 years, Louis Vuitton has been at the forefront of creating trunks that embody excellence, creativity, and boldness—qualities that align perfectly with the world’s most notable sporting events. This partnership with Formula 1 promises to further exemplify this spirit of accomplishment.
