In conversation with ANI, Emraan highlighted that while the film addresses specific issues within the Muslim community, its themes are universal. “This is a story that focuses on a woman’s voice and the need for equality,” he stated. He emphasized the biases embedded in a patriarchal society, noting how these attitudes can undermine women’s dignity. “If men reflect on this, they might find value in the film,” he added.

Emraan clarified that *Haq* is pro-women and not against any particular group. He elaborated, “When you leave the theater, you’ll see that we’ve raised issues surrounding women’s dignity and equal rights. We are not judging anyone but merely presenting the story as objectively as possible.” This approach invites viewers to interpret the film through their own perspectives.

Understanding the Shah Bano Case

The Shah Bano Case, which dates back to 1978, involved Shah Bano Begum seeking maintenance from her ex-husband, Mohammed Ahmed Khan. This case significantly impacted Muslim women’s rights in India when the Supreme Court ruled in her favor. However, subsequent legislation in 1986 overturned this ruling, sparking controversy and discussion on women’s rights in the legal domain.
