Elijah Wood Surprises Fans at Hobbiton with a Lord of the Rings Wedding Visit

A couple from Rotorua experienced an unforgettable moment at their Lord of the Rings-themed wedding at Hobbiton when they found themselves face-to-face with an unexpected guest – none other than Elijah Wood.

The renowned actor, famous for embodying Frodo Baggins, was exploring the Waikato movie set while attending the Armageddon Expo in New Zealand when he stumbled upon the couple’s wedding ceremony.

“I did a double-take when I saw him,” Sharik shared with 1News. “You wouldn’t expect to see a movie star at Hobbiton, and then you realize, ‘Oh wow, it really is him.’

Elijah Wood graciously congratulated the couple, shaking their hands and joining them for pictures, leaving them starstruck.

While signing their wedding documents, Sharik noticed a tour group nearby. “We were hoping they would move along so our wedding wouldn’t be intruded upon,” he joked, but he later admitted he was grateful they stayed.

Jessica added, “He initially wasn’t going to approach us, but he was encouraged to come up. We’re really thankful he did.”

Themed Wedding Celebration

The wedding itself was a tribute to the rich world of Middle-earth. Guests dressed up in themed attire, and the vows included nods to adventures and hobbits. To keep the spirit alive, Sharik’s sister, dressed as Gollum, delivered the wedding rings.

“She wore a dress, and when they asked for the rings, she transformed into Gollum and walked down the aisle,” Sharik recalled fondly.

Honeymoon Adventures

The newlyweds are currently embarking on a road trip across New Zealand’s South Island, visiting iconic locations featured in the films.

Jessica, who had never explored the South Island before, is excited about their highlights tour and the promise of returning for anniversary trips to uncover even more filming locations.

“Now we have a reason to visit every year,” the groom noted, “One new filming location each time.”
