Diljit Dosanjh’s Historic Australian Tour: Responding to Racism with Grace

Diljit Dosanjh: First Indian Artist to Headline Major Stadiums in Australia

Indian superstar Diljit Dosanjh has achieved a remarkable milestone in Australia’s music scene, recently completing a sold-out tour that made history. Despite encountering racial comments during his visit, he addressed the issue with grace and positivity.

In response to the offensive remarks, Dosanjh stated: “I don’t mind being compared to a cab or truck driver. If truck drivers cease to exist, you won’t get bread for your home. I’m not angry, and my love goes out to everyone.” His approach highlights his resilience and commitment to spreading love.

Official Apology and Support

Australia’s Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Julian Hill, publicly apologized to Dosanjh, emphasizing that “Nobody should be discriminated against for who they are. I am sorry Diljit has copped such rubbish from a tiny minority of idiots.” Hill praised Dosanjh’s admirable response, reflecting the supportive environment many fans feel.

Record-Breaking Tour

TEG Live recently announced that Diljit has made history as the first Indian artist to completely sell out multiple stadiums across Australia, creating the largest tour ever for an Indian performer in the country. With over 90,000 tickets sold across six cities, his Melbourne show at AAMI Park was gone within hours of its release to the public.

The tour is set to continue in Adelaide and Perth, before transitioning to New Zealand for a performance in Auckland.

AURA Tour Highlights

The ‘AURA’ tour follows a series of internationally successful performances across North America, Europe, and India, in addition to his earlier 2023 ‘Born To Shine’ tour in Australia.

Known for his unique fusion of traditional Punjabi music with contemporary global sounds, Dosanjh has gained international fame with hits like “G.O.A.T”, “Do You Know”, and “Proper Patola”. His remarkable journey also includes appearances at top events such as Coachella, the Met Gala, and the Billboard Summit, along with roles in high-profile films, including the upcoming Netflix release Amar Singh Chamkila.

Celebrating Music and Culture

Speaking about his tour, Dosanjh shared, “The energy that fans in Australia and New Zealand brought to my last tour was unforgettable. My fans’ immense love is the reason I’m coming back with stadium shows in Sydney and Melbourne. We’ve also added Adelaide and Perth to celebrate with even more of them. This tour is for the fans — but it’s also about celebrating Indian music on a global stage and sharing our culture with the world.”
