Exciting Screening of Daniel Johns’ Short Film

The world exclusive screening of What If The Future Never Happened?, the much-anticipated short film created by Daniel Johns of Silverchair, has been announced as a part of the ARIA Awards Presents program for 2025.

Celebrating Australian Music Talent

ARIA is preparing to host its annual program once again, aimed at giving aspiring artists and industry professionals a platform to celebrate both established and emerging talent in Australia. The program aims to ignite important discussions that will shape the future landscape of Australian music.

A Peek into the 90s

Directed by James Medlam, Johns’ sci-fi film offers a nostalgic journey into the ’90s, centering on a teenage rockstar named Daniel. The story unfolds on a day in regional Australia, exploring his life before he becomes a global sensation. Rasmus King steps into the role of the young Johns, as the plot delves into a fateful encounter with a mysterious figure from the future.

Shot in Newcastle on Awabakal land in 2022, this featurette’s release has been timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Silverchair’s debut album, frogstomp.

In-Person Events with Daniel Johns

Johns will also appear in live events in Newcastle, Brisbane, and Melbourne, participating in an ‘In Conversation’ series to promote the short film.

The program will incorporate Ausmusic T-Shirt Day on November 27th, inviting music lovers across Australia to wear their favorite band tee. Participants are encouraged to take pictures and share them online to support the artists and teams that make live music possible. Each shirt worn and donation made supports Support Act, the charity for the music industry.

Engaging Industry Events

Numerous industry events will be hosted by ARIA, including a gathering for artists with Spotify, barbecues for producers and engineers, networking evenings for industry professionals, and workshops tailored for independent artists.

“The ARIA Awards Presents program is a vital opportunity to highlight the diversity and strength present in Australian music,” said Annabelle Herd, ARIA’s CEO. “It creates more stages and opportunities for our artists to connect with communities beyond the ARIA Awards themselves.”

Upcoming ARIA Awards

The ARIA Awards will take place on November 19th, featuring a performance by UK star Olivia Dean. This year’s nominees include talents like Ninajirachi, Dom Dolla, and RÜFÜS DU SOL.
