An alarming trend of bomb threats targeting celebrities has emerged in Chennai.
Recently, Chennai, Tamil Nadu has seen a spate of bomb threats aimed at various public figures, creating an unsettling atmosphere. The renowned music composer, Ilaiyaraaja, has become the latest victim of such threats, receiving alarming emails that have incited major concerns. Reports indicate that his studio in T Nagar was specifically targeted, escalating fears of insecurity.
Ilaiyaraaja’s studio was under serious threat, creating a substantial sense of alarm.
Ilaiyaraaja’s Studio Under Siege
On a recent Tuesday, an email was dispatched both to Ilaiyaraaja and the DGP’s office claiming that an explosive device was concealed within his studio premises. Swift police action ensued, with a contingent including the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) immediately deployed to conduct a comprehensive search.
Authorities later confirmed that the threat was unfounded, tracing the email origin back to a Hotmail address. This was similar to previous hoaxes sent to other influential individuals across the city. Investigations are currently being pursued by both the Cyber Crime Unit and local police.
A Pattern of Threats
This pattern of bomb threats appears to have broader implications. On October 2, similar emails were circulated regarding threats at various residences, including that of actress Trisha Krishnan and others. The BDDS promptly responded, but no suspicious findings were reported.
In a notable incident on October 9, the police apprehended a 37-year-old suspect named Shabik for making a false claim about a bomb at the residence of actor and politician Vijay, which also turned out to be a hoax after a thorough search by BDDS.
This trend isn’t limited to celebrities alone; numerous politicians—including Chief Minister MK Stalin—have also been targeted, further intensifying public anxiety over these incidents.
How do you feel about the security of public figures in light of these recent bomb threats?
