Pōneke-based artist Nikau Te Huki, widely recognized as Casual Healing, has just unveiled his latest single, “Moving Together.” This track serves a dual purpose: it’s both a heartfelt love song and a testament to perseverance.

## An Artist on the Rise

For over ten years, Nikau has created music that emphasizes intimacy, connection, and emotional depth. His solo debut, *Driftwood*, released in 2024, quickly established him as one of Aotearoa’s most enchanting new talents. This success has led to sold-out tours and performances at major festivals like SXSW Sydney, Rhythm & Vines, and TSB Festival of Lights. Additionally, *Driftwood* was celebrated as one of the “80 Best New Zealand Albums of the 2020s So Far.”

## Ambitious New Projects

This year marks an exciting period for Casual Healing, as he embarks on an ambitious project: a series of four EPs influenced by Te Taiao, the natural world. Each EP represents one of the four elements: AHI (fire), HAU (wind), WAI (water), and ONE (earth). The first two releases, which debuted earlier this year, have garnered praise for their creativity and sincerity. Notably, “Hypersensitive,” featuring Māori musician MĀ, is part of the AHI (fire) project. The journey continues with WAI dropping on September 26th, followed by ONE on December 12th.

## The Essence of “Moving Together”

“Moving Together” is the lead single from the upcoming WAI EP. It draws from Nikau’s lasting relationship with his best friend and co-parent. The track blends elements of Neo-Soul and R&B, combining earthy nylon-string guitar with smooth vocals that highlight a commitment that extends beyond the initial stages of love.

“After eight years and two children, I can honestly say we’ve seen the best and worst in each other—but we chose to stay and grow together,” Nikau shares. “That’s true love; that’s what this song is about.”
