Al Pacino Reflects on Missed Love: Regrets About Diane Keaton
Al Pacino’s Regret
Al Pacino reportedly feels deep remorse over not marrying Diane Keaton, whom he referred to as the “love of his life.” Their relationship lasted for two decades, ending in 1990.
Keaton passed away at 79 in California. She and Pacino first connected in the 1970s while filming “The Godfather” trilogy. Their romance began in 1974 and ultimately ended when Keaton issued an ultimatum about marriage, which Pacino declined.
Pacino’s Ongoing Regret
A source shared that Pacino, who is currently 85, feels he will always regret not pursuing a serious commitment with Keaton.
“He often says he will forever regret not making a move when he had the chance,” a close friend disclosed. “For years after their breakup, he would say, ‘If it’s meant to be, it’s never too late for a do-over.’ Sadly, that opportunity has passed.”
Looking back, the actor acknowledges that Diane was the love of his life, praising her as an “amazing woman.”
Despite living near each other in Beverly Hills, the two did not maintain contact. Pacino explained, “There’s no need to talk with each other. We said everything that needed to be said at the time.”
Insights from Keaton
In a 2017 interview, Keaton reflected on their relationship, expressing that marriage might not have been a good fit for them.
She shared, “I didn’t even want him to propose. I just thought maybe he would marry me, eventually. But that never happened, and that is a blessing for both of us.”
Keaton acknowledged their differences, saying, “We’re very eccentric. He needed someone to care for him, and I needed a man who would take care of me.”
Remarkably, Keaton mentioned that she fell for Pacino during the first “Godfather” film, describing him as charming and hilarious.
Although Keaton never married, she adopted two children in her 50s. Pacino also has four children but has never wed.
Honoring Diane Keaton
PACINO honored Keaton during the AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony in 2017, expressing his admiration by saying, “You’re an artist, Di. I love you, forever.”
Keaton’s former partner, Woody Allen, is also reportedly heartbroken over her passing.
What are your thoughts on Al Pacino’s reflections about his relationship with Diane Keaton? Do you think their differing views on marriage changed the course of their lives?
