Zubeen Garg’s Roi Roi Binale Dominates Assam Screens as Others Exit
Assam halts film screenings to honor Zubeen Garg, allowing only his last film, Roi Roi Binale, to play from October 31.
On September 19, the nation mourned the unexpected loss of renowned singer Zubeen Garg. To pay tribute, Assam has chosen to stop the screening of all other films, enabling only his last movie, Roi Roi Binale, to be shown in theaters starting October 31. This includes the removal of Thamma, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, Kantara: A Legend Chapter – 1, and others from theater schedules.
Zubeen’s final film set for release on October 31
A source from Bollywood Hungama stated, “Theaters across Assam will discontinue all ongoing shows. New films, including Baahubali: The Epic and others, will not be screened. Only Roi Roi Binale will be featured in every cinema in the state.”
The film has generated remarkable ticket sales, with weekend shows almost sold out and weekday screenings quickly filling up. In Guwahati, showtimes will kick off as early as 6:00 am, and in Tezpur, the first screening may start even earlier.
Directed by Rajesh Bhuyan and co-written by Zubeen Garg, Roi Roi Binale is a musical romantic drama produced by Zeal Creations and i-Creation. The film features Zubeen in his last acting role alongside Mousumi Alifa and others. The release is set for October 31.
Zubeen Garg’s untimely passing
Beloved Assamese singer and actor Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, in Singapore, as confirmed by local authorities. During a yacht outing near St. John’s Island, he lost consciousness while swimming and was taken to Singapore General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death was recorded as drowning.
Authorities reported that initial investigations did not suggest foul play, but a coroner’s inquiry is underway to clarify the circumstances surrounding his death.
