In a significant turn of events in the Zubeen Garg death case, five of the seven accused, including his cousin Sandipan Garg and manager Siddhartha Sharma, have been placed in 14-day judicial custody. This decision comes as the investigation progresses following the untimely death of the renowned Assamese artist.

Authorities revealed that none of the accused had legal representation during the proceedings, and no bail requests were submitted. It is anticipated that they will be kept at Guwahati Central Jail while the Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the Assam CID delves deeper into the case.

Munna Prasad Gupta, head of the SIT, confirmed that the five individuals were brought to court after their police custody concluded. “We initially arrested seven people, and after finishing the police custody of these five, they were presented in court,” he stated.

Gupta also mentioned that two witnesses have already given statements at the CID office, with plans for another witness to follow. “This brings the total to ten individuals who have made statements. We are now awaiting communication regarding the officers assigned to an investigation in Singapore, which is a standard protocol,” he added.

These arrests transpired nearly a month after Zubeen Garg’s tragic passing on September 19, which triggered widespread shock and public demands for a thorough investigation. The Assam Police established a SIT due to discrepancies in the events surrounding his death.
