Youngjae to Enlist in Military by November, Completing GOT7’s Service Roster
Singer Choi Youngjae is preparing to begin his mandatory military service. With this decision, he will be the last member of GOT7 to set aside his entertainment career for national duty. Youngjae will take on an alternative service arrangement, serving as a social service worker instead of engaging in active military duty. He follows in the footsteps of leader JAY B, who is also performing public service.
Announcement of Youngjae’s Service
The official statement regarding Youngjae’s enlistment is as follows:
“Hello,
This is Andbut Company.
We would like to announce that Youngjae will start his military service as a social service worker beginning November 27. He has decided against holding a separate public announcement to humbly fulfill his duties. We are grateful for the love and support from fans. Please continue to encourage Youngjae during his service.”
Duration of Service
Youngjae is required to complete 21 months of public service, as opposed to the standard 18-month term for those in active duty. He is expected to be discharged on August 26, 2027, assuming everything goes smoothly.
Timeline of GOT7 Members’ Military Service
Meanwhile, GOT7’s maknae (youngest member) Yugyeom’s discharge date is projected to be around March 28, 2027, following his 1.5-year service that began with his enlistment on September 29, 2025. He enlisted in the army band, with JAY B, Park Jinyoung, and Youngjae accompanying him to the enlistment center.
In contrast, Park Jinyoung was the only member to serve as an active duty soldier, completing his service on November 7, 2024. He enlisted on May 8, 2023, for an 18-month stint. Leader JAY B fulfilled a 21-month duty as a public service worker from February 2, 2023, to November 1, 2024. Members Mark, Jackson, and BamBam are exempt from service due to their foreign citizenship.
