Yami Gautam Discusses Haq’s Censorship in the UAE
Yami emphasized that there have been no censorship issues for Haq in the UAE. “I’m revealing for the first time that this film has had no cuts in the UAE. It has been given a 15-plus rating, making it suitable for all viewers,” she stated. She added that the film is not designed to offend anyone from any religion, reinforcing its inclusive message.
About Haq
“It is challenging to provide substantial evidence without viewing the film. This narrative isn’t focused on one specific community,” Yami mentioned. Directed by Suparn Varma, the courtroom drama draws inspiration from the landmark Shah Bano Begum case of 1985.
The film portrays the events surrounding the significant Mohd Ahmed Khan vs Shah Bano Begum case, as illustrated in Jigna Vora’s book, Bano: Bharat Ki Beti. This legal battle commenced in 1978 when Shah Bano was divorced by her lawyer husband, ultimately reaching the Supreme Court in 1985. The verdict acknowledged that Muslim women have rights to maintenance as per the law.
Featuring Emraan Hashmi, Sheeba Chaddha, and Vartika Singh alongside Yami, the film showcases Yami as Shazia Bano and Emraan as her husband, Lawyer Abbas Khan. Haq is set for theatrical release on November 7, produced by Junglee Pictures in collaboration with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios.
