Warner Music Australia Addresses Jessica Mauboy’s Departure

Jessica Mauboy Exits Warner Music to Launch Her Own Indie Label

Jessica Mauboy has officially left Warner Music Australia after nearly five years and one album, with both parties amicably parting ways.

The timing of her departure aligns with the launch of her independent label, Jamally, which is partnered with DistroDirect for distribution.

Mauboy surprised many in the industry when she signed with Warner Music in 2020, marking a shift from her long-standing relationship with Sony Music.

A representative confirmed her exit, stating, “Yes, Jess has decided to embark on a new journey. WM Australia wishes her all the best for this next chapter in her career.”

During her time with WMA, Mauboy released her fifth studio album, Yours Forever, in February 2024. This album garnered ARIA Award nominations for Best Pop Release and Song of the Year for her track “Give You Love.”

She originally signed with Sony Music following a strong finish in the 2006 season of Australian Idol, where she came in second behind Damien Leith.

Over her career, Mauboy has achieved seven ARIA top 10 albums and 16 top 20 singles, amassing over 200 million streams worldwide and winning two ARIA Awards.

In 2016, she made history as the first Indigenous Australian solo artist to debut at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with The Secret Daughter (Songs From The Original TV Series). She reached the top again in 2019 with HILDA.

Born in Darwin, she represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 with “We Got Love” and proudly led her nation’s contingent at the Paris Olympic Games, performing the team song “Higher” in the French capital.
