Venus Williams Unveils Luar x Woolmark’s Innovative Performance Knit

Tennis icon Venus Williams recently made a stunning comeback at the US Open, showcasing a unique knitted performance outfit crafted from Merino wool. The ensemble, created by New York fashion label Luar in collaboration with Woolmark, was unveiled during an exhibition match with tennis great John McEnroe.

This partnership highlights innovative tennis apparel aimed at demonstrating the adaptability and performance features of Merino wool. It aims to blend high fashion with elite sportswear, challenging traditional notions of both tennis attire and wool.

Designed by Raul Lopez, Luar is a licensee of Woolmark and was a finalist for the 2025 International Woolmark Prize. The custom tennis kit for Williams includes two distinct outfits alongside functional wool accessories, setting a new standard for performance sportswear.

The first look features a black knitted Merino wool mesh dress with a pleated skirt, paired with a coordinating Luar track jacket. The second look consists of a beige, two-piece knit top and skirt, ideal for off-court comfort and press events. Rounding out the collection is a stylish water-resistant messenger bag made from 100% Optim wool, complemented by a wool hat and scrunchie.

Raul Lopez expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We are committed to using wool due to its remarkable qualities—technology, versatility, and heritage.
