Varun Dhawan’s Directional Interference: Dad David’s Wise Advice
Varun Dhawan’s Learning Moment with Father David Dhawan
A Memorable Incident on Set
Varun Dhawan has been a prominent figure in Bollywood for over a decade, leaving a mark with hit films like *Badlapur* and *October*. However, his journey wasn’t without its challenges. Recently, he recounted a moment from his earlier days as he clashed with his father’s directorial approach.
Father-Son Dynamics
In a candid interview, Varun described how he began his career by assisting his father, David Dhawan, a well-respected filmmaker. One day on set in Delhi, he made the mistake of suggesting a change for a specific shot. This did not sit well with his seasoned father. Varun recalls, “When it comes to work, my father sets aside all personal relationships…he has his own way of doing things.”
He continued, “I was too young to make suggestions like that. His exact words were, ‘Jab tum apni film banaoge ya jab ek muqaam pe pahuch jaoge tab karlena ye sab.’ (When you make your own film or reach a certain stature, then do all this).”
Reflections on Growth
Initially, Varun felt disheartened by his father’s response. Yet, he later recognized that David was correct. “Of course, I felt disappointed at first, but he was right. Now, our creative discussions are very productive,” he noted.
