Vance Joy Unveils Captivating New Single ‘Fascination in the Dark’

Vance Joy has just unveiled his second single of the year, titled “Fascination in the Dark.”
A Companion to “Divine Feelings”
This new track serves as a companion piece to his earlier release, “Divine Feelings,” which debuted in September. It marks Joy’s first solo work since his 2022 album, In Our Own Sweet Time. Additionally, he has collaborated on singles like “Everybody Needs Somebody” with Noah Cyrus and the upcoming “Wherever You Are” with Shouse.
A press statement reveals that both songs emerged during a particularly joyous phase in Joy’s life, which included marrying his dream partner, relocating to Barcelona, and becoming a father.
Theme of Connection
“Fascination in the Dark” captures the thrill of making eye contact with someone in a dimly lit setting. It depicts that exhilarating moment filled with uncertainty yet brimming with potential.
On the other hand, “Divine Feelings” highlights the experience of meeting someone who leaves a lasting impression. This theme resonates deeply with Joy, elaborating on how he encountered his now-wife in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter back in 2019.
Recent Achievements
His album In Our Own Sweet Time was recognized in the 100 Best Australian Albums of the 2020s So Far, reaching No. 96. It was created during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, a phase that led to a nomination for Best Independent Pop Album or EP at the 2023 AIR Awards.
Tour Highlights
Currently, Joy is touring North America before heading back to perform at Adelaide’s Harvest Rock festival on October 25.
During his time in the U.S., he surprised fans at Old Mates, a pub co-owned by comedian Andy Lee, with an unexpected pop-up concert. Around 300 fans squeezed in for an intimate and energetic performance that harkened back to Joy’s early days of busking. He also collaborated with The Lumineers, singing “Gale Song” in front of an audience of 32,000.
