US Band Cancels Australia and New Zealand Tour Just Weeks Away

## Pentagram Cancels Australia and New Zealand Tour

American doom metal band Pentagram has officially canceled their upcoming tour in Australia and New Zealand. This tour, which was eagerly anticipated, was set to mark the band’s first-ever visit to these countries in August, with performances in major cities like Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Wellington, Christchurch, and Auckland.

### Reasons for the Tour Cancellation

Promoters Hardline Media released a statement, noting that “due to the current allegations surrounding the Pentagram Australian/New Zealand tour, Hardline Media has decided to put this tour on hiatus.” They clarified that no VISAs had been granted, countering previous claims from other sources. Additionally, they assured that venues and staff involved were not implicated in the allegations.

The statement concluded, “We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding while we navigate this situation. All ticket holders will be informed directly as updates become available.”

### Pentagram’s Status in Doom Metal

Pentagram is frequently regarded as one of the “big four” of doom metal, alongside bands like Candlemass, Saint Vitus, and Trouble. Frontman Bobby Liebling, sometimes referred to as the “American Ozzy,” has gained notable attention, even becoming a viral sensation and a popular meme.

### Past Controversies

However, Pentagram’s journey hasn’t been free from controversy. In 2017, Bobby Liebling faced serious legal issues, being arrested and charged with first-degree assault and abuse of a vulnerable adult—specifically, his elderly mother. He pleaded guilty to charges of neglect but maintained his innocence regarding the assault and received an 18-month detention sentence along with three years of probation.

At that time, the band indicated they would perform without Liebling, citing circumstances beyond anyone’s control directly related to his personal actions.

Moreover, some opening acts, including Wax Idols and King Woman, previously withdrew from their performances, mainly due to inappropriate remarks attributed to Liebling.

What do you think about the impact of controversies on a band’s reputation?
