LONDON – Legendary rock artist Bruce Springsteen surprised fans by appearing on the London Film Festival red carpet. He showed support for the team behind a new biographical film detailing his life.
Entitled “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere,” the film features Jeremy Allen White, known for “The Bear,” portraying the iconic musician. Instead of highlighting his illustrious career, the film presents a gritty look at the man behind the music.
Directed by Scott Cooper and co-written with Warren Zanes, the film dives deep into a young Springsteen’s life as he grapples with personal struggles during the creation of his impactful 1982 album “Nebraska.”
White commented on the film’s focus, saying, “It captures the essence of his desire for familial connections, particularly his relationship with his father,” who is portrayed by Stephen Graham. “This period shaped the choices he made for his future.”
Additionally, “Succession” star Jeremy Strong plays Springsteen’s longtime manager, Jon Landau. He emphasized the importance of confronting mental health issues through art in this narrative.
“It’s a courageous story,” said Strong, “highlighting the real Bruce, beyond his mythos.”
This marks the first cinematic portrayal of Springsteen’s life, and he was actively involved in its creation.
“He was very kind, listening to me sing,” reminisced White. “His support was crucial to my performance in this role.”
The film will begin its global release on October 22.
