Triple J Marks 50 Years with an Exciting Tour Featuring Ninajirachi and Courtney Barnett

To mark its 50th anniversary, triple j is set to embark on an exciting tour featuring artists such as Ninajirachi, Courtney Barnett, and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers later this year.

The ‘triple j 50 Tour’ will visit five locations: Hobart, Newcastle, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, and Torquay, offering a diverse lineup that celebrates the finest in local music.

History of triple j

2025 signals a significant milestone as triple j celebrates 50 years since its inception in Sydney as 2JJ, bringing a fresh voice in music, culture, news, and comedy to young Australians. The first presenter, Holger Brockmann, played tracks like Skyhooks’ “You Just Like Me ‘Cos I’m Good in Bed,” which was controversially banned. The station transitioned to a national format in 1989, evolving into the triple j we know today.

Throughout the year, various events have commemorated this special anniversary. For instance, in January, Double J replayed the very first broadcast of 2JJ and hosted the special edition Hottest 100 of Australian Songs, alongside the regional WA installment of One Night Stand.
