The Neighbourhood Returns: Exciting New Chapter Post-Hiatus and Drummer Change

The Return of The Neighbourhood

The Neighbourhood is making a comeback. On Friday, the band took to Instagram to announce their reunion, with drummer Brandon Fried rejoining after a three-year break. They’re excited to share what they call their “next chapter” with fans.

Reflecting on Their Time Apart

The band stated, “In November 2021, after 10 years together, The Neighbourhood went on an indefinite hiatus.” They faced several personal challenges during this time, including breakups and family issues. As they transitioned into their early 30s, life outside the band became a new reality for them.

Overcoming Challenges Together

Originally consisting of vocalist Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Zachary Abels and Jeremiah Freedman, bassist Michael Margott, and Fried, the band faced a significant setback when Fried was dismissed in late 2022 due to serious allegations. A statement from the group revealed that he was let go after an incident involving Maria Zardoya of the Marías, where she accused him of inappropriate behavior.

Fried acknowledged his actions, attributing them to struggles with substance abuse, and publicly apologized. The Neighbourhood emphasized that it was crucial for Fried to focus on his recovery.

A Supportive Journey

“In November 2022, it became evident that Brandon’s struggles with substance abuse needed immediate attention,” they wrote. The band expressed gratitude to those who spoke out, noting that their courage helped Fried get necessary support. “We are proud of Brandon, the changes he has made, and the progress he continues to make in his life.”

Having known each other for over 20 years, the band members understand how individual struggles can affect the entire group.

Exciting Developments Ahead

The Neighbourhood announced their return to the studio in November 2024 and hinted at their official comeback. “Thank you to everyone who kept the music alive while we were away,” they shared. The anticipation to reveal new music is growing, and they are eager to connect with their audience once again.

Their last album before the hiatus, Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones, was released in September 2020. Since then, Rutherford has launched two solo albums, &ONE in 2023 and Jesse® in 2024.
