Stella Donnelly Unveils New Album ‘Love and Fortune’ Inspired by Unforgettable Songs
Stella Donnelly’s Upcoming Album Release
Stella Donnelly is set to unveil her first album since 2022, titled Love and Fortune, on November 7th, through Dot Dash Recordings / Remote Control.
A Personal Journey
The new album is described as "a deeply personal and anchored body of work" that reflects Donnelly’s journey of self-discovery following intense changes in her life. This release comes after a period of quiet contemplation for the Australian singer-songwriter, necessary after years of extensive touring.
Donnelly shares, “These songs wouldn’t leave me alone. Like seagulls, they screamed at me when I rode to work, pecked at me while I wrote essays, and stole my chips the second I thought I was happier without music.”
New Music: “Feel It Change”
Love and Fortune features the new single “Feel It Change,” which debuted on Huw Stephens’ BBC 6 Music show.
Donnelly reveals, “I wrote this song on a baritone guitar in the shed of my sharehouse, plugged into all of my housemate’s overdrive pedals. I think the neighbours started getting annoyed because I looped the same chords for ages.” The song captures the tumultuous emotions of a breakup, emphasizing the resentment and finger-pointing often involved.
Double A-Side Release
Additionally, the album includes a double A-side single, “Baths” / “Standing Ovation,” marking Donnelly’s first new music since her earlier album, Flood.
Donnelly explains that the melody for “Baths” came to her while swimming laps at Brunswick Baths in Melbourne. "The pool filter created a humming sound on one note, allowing me to layer a melody on top," she explained. The inspiration continued at home, culminating in what she describes as "a little timeline of my life so far."
Donnelly’s previous album, Beware of the Dogs, was a stunning debut, and her latest work promises to deepen her artistic evolution. The combination of jangling indie-pop with new sonic layers reflects her growth as an artist.
