Sonam Bajwa Discusses Turning Down Bollywood Roles Due to Kissing Scenes

Sonam Explains Her Inhibitions

In a recent discussion with Film Companion, Sonam expressed how cultural expectations and the fear of public opinion held her back in her early career. She worried about how her audience in Punjab would react to her performing intimate scenes.

“I declined a few Bollywood offers because I asked myself, ‘Is Punjab going to be okay with it?’ I was apprehensive about how families would perceive such scenes. I was scared to do a kissing scene, thinking about the reactions of those who have supported my journey. I had so many questions,” she reflected.

Sonam realized her hesitation stemmed from a desire to protect her public image and respect those who had backed her from the start. She maintained certain boundaries rooted in her cultural background.

However, a pivotal conversation with her parents shifted her perspective. “A couple of years ago, I talked it over with my mom and dad. They reassured me, saying, ‘If it’s for a film, it’s fine.’ I was taken aback and wished I had approached them sooner. We often create barriers in our minds. They told me, ‘It’s just for a film, there’s no issue,’” Sonam shared.
