The New Zealand Screen Awards have published their list of finalists for the 2025 Screen Personality of the Year, prominently featuring talents from TVNZ in this popular fan-voted category. Notable nominees include Hayley Sproull, JP Foliaki, and Scotty Morrison, representing a mix of entertainment, reality, and news.
Who’s in the Running?
Other contenders in the running are Anapela Polata’ivao for Tinā, Guy Montgomery for Guy Montgomery’s Guy-Mont Spelling Bee, Laura McGoldrick for Sky Sport, Nadia Lim from Nadia’s Farm, Nepia Takiura-Mita for Ahikāroa, and Samantha Hayes for ThreeNews. The winner will be decided by public online votes.
Reactions from Nominees
Sproull, recognized for her role on Taskmaster NZ, expressed her excitement about the nomination, stating she felt "elated."
“All through school all I wanted to do was entertain people and make them laugh,” she said. “Pretty annoying I imagine when you’re trying to teach a history class or a PE lesson. I’m glad people can now enjoy my endless desire to entertain in a more fitting way.”
Meanwhile, JP Foliaki, who appeared on Celebrity Treasure Island, highlighted the significance of cultural representation in his recognition.
“I’ve always encouraged others to embrace their talents and aspirations. But to be honest, just vote for me because Tonga needs a win after that shocking rugby league match against Toa Samoa,” he lightheartedly quipped.
Veteran broadcaster Scotty Morrison, known for his work on Te Karere, Marae, and Origins, commented on the importance of kaupapa Māori programming.
“Hopefully people will engage with these shows and feel a connection to Aotearoa in a way they haven’t before.”
