Sanya Malhotra’s Thrilling Journey with Anurag Kashyap on ‘Bandar’
Sanya Malhotra’s Experience Working with Anurag Kashyap
Mumbai actor Sanya Malhotra recently expressed that collaborating with the renowned director Anurag Kashyap on the film “Bandar” was a transformative journey for her. She described it as an experience filled with fulfillment and spontaneity, highlighting her willingness to embrace his artistic vision.
Malhotra elaborated on her experience by mentioning that Kashyap, celebrated for films like “Black Friday” and “Gangs of Wasseypur,” shares a unique filmmaking approach resembling that of Anurag Basu, with whom she previously worked on “Ludo.” She expressed that she didn’t even read the script beforehand, relishing the unpredictability of the filming process.
“I truly enjoy that process. The last time it happened was during ‘Ludo’. On that set, I felt quite disoriented, but it was exciting. I usually prepare extensively by creating backstories for my characters,” she shared.
“When directors tell me to trust them and not overthink, I find that liberating. I surrendered to the process, and together we created magic with every scene,” she noted in an interview with PTI.
About the Film “Bandar”
Starring Bobby Deol, “Bandar” draws inspiration from real events and follows the story of a once-celebrated star embroiled in a rape accusation, shedding light on systemic injustices and the frequently silenced voices in legal proceedings.
Malhotra portrays the role of Bobby’s character Samar’s sister, contributing to the film’s emotional depth.
Reflecting on the filming of a particularly intense scene, Malhotra revealed that the raw authenticity displayed was a direct result of the environment that Kashyap fostered on set. “In one scene, I was so incensed that my legs were shaking. My co-actor had to hold me for stability,” she recounted.
“We couldn’t keep that take. I was screaming at him, and he was in tears. Surprisingly, there were no dialogues; our emotions spoke volumes. This was only possible because of Anurag Kashyap—it’s the craziest and most fulfilling experience I have ever had,” she concluded.
Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi, “Bandar” also features talents like Saba Azad and Sapna Pabbi. The film’s script was crafted in collaboration with Sudip Sharma, known for his work on “Paatal Lok” and “Kohrra.”
