Russell Crowe Shares Wild Glastonbury Festival Stories Before Sydney Show

Russell Crowe: A Multifaceted Talent

Throughout his illustrious career, Russell Crowe has taken on numerous iconic roles, but one moment truly stands out. From portraying a neo-Nazi in Romper Stomper to a brilliant mathematician in A Beautiful Mind, Crowe is known for his ability to tackle diverse characters. He has inhabited superheroes in both Marvel and DC realms and has even taken on biblical figures like Noah.

However, aside from acting, he has also made a name for himself as a rock star.

Touring with Indoor Garden Party

As the lead singer of Indoor Garden Party, Crowe embarked on an impressive tour in 2023 and 2024 that captivated many. They performed at landmarks such as the Colosseum in Rome and the renowned Glastonbury festival in England.

Crowe is not the only actor to front a rock band, joining the ranks of Juliette Lewis and Johnny Depp. Yet, how many have played at Glastonbury while also holding an Oscar to their name?

Experiencing Glastonbury

His immediate reaction to performing at Glastonbury was one of utter disbelief: “What the fuck,” he remarked, overwhelmed by the sight of 200,000 fans from the stage. He shared that the show was filled with challenges, including technical difficulties with audio equipment. “My mic drops out, the keyboard drops out, but we just kept charging through,” he explained. The band’s extensive experience allowed them to maintain composure during the chaos.

Indoor Garden Party has toured extensively, performing in countries such as Italy, France, and Australia, with a special homecoming concert planned for Christmas.

Musical Beginnings

Russell Crowe’s musical journey began at the young age of six when he first picked up a guitar. By sixteen, he was performing live in clubs, simultaneously pursuing his acting career. While acting became his primary focus, music never left his heart. His previous band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, was active from 1992 to 2005, leaving a mark of its own.

In 2009, the idea for Indoor Garden Party was sparked during a conversation outside a London pub. The band’s second album, Prose and Cons, released last year, showcases a blend of rock and country influences. Their debut album, The Musical, came out in 2017.

Crowe reflects on his past with 30 Odd Foot of Grunts: “It was a great band, but it was much maligned. You can either fight against that perception or redirect your energy toward something more meaningful.” He champions Indoor Garden Party for the passion they bring to their music.

Upcoming Concert in Sydney
