Royel Otis Drops New Album "hickey"

Royel Otis has officially released their eagerly awaited album, hickey.

This new work, launched via OURNESS / Capitol Records, follows their successful debut album, PRATTS & PAIN (2024). When discussing the intriguing title, the duo explained, “…because love bites harder than any other emotion in the world.”

Musical Journey

The album features 13 tracks that explore the complexities of youthful romance. According to a press release, the sound transitions between joyful and reflective, merging elements of slack indie rock, jangly new wave, and dreamy pop.

Accompanying the album’s release is a music video for the track “who’s your boyfriend.” Directed by Lauren Dunn, the video stars Lola Tung, known for her role in the popular Prime series The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Chart-Topping Hits

The new album includes previously released singles like “moody,” which recently topped the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay Chart for seven weeks, and “say something,” which was performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

A Year of Accomplishments

Last year proved to be monumental for Royel Otis, marked by a top 10 album, a debut on the Billboard Hot 100, wins at the ARIA Awards (including Best Group), and international tours. They also held a sold-out homecoming show at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion and even performed a DJ set at Beyond the Valley.

Upcoming Tours

To celebrate the release of hickey, Royel Otis will head back to Australia for a tour later this year, with performances scheduled in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth throughout October. Due to high demand, additional dates have already been announced. Before their Australian tour, they plan to bring their ‘meet me in the car’ tour to North America.
