Review: Keira Knightley Shines in Suspenseful Yacht Thriller ‘The Woman in Cabin 10’
The Woman in Cabin 10’ Review: Keira Knightley Does Hitchcock on a Yacht
A journalist embarks on a yacht trip, only to uncover a deepening mystery.
What if Alfred Hitchcock had directed a film starring Keira Knightley? While she may not mirror the classic blonde lead type, her role in this adaptation of the novel “The Woman in Cabin 10” offers an interesting take on the suspense genre.
Directed by Simon Stone and based on Ruth Ware’s novel, this film dives into the typical missing-person mystery narrative. Laura “Lo” Blacklock, a top reporter returning from a traumatic assignment, finds herself on a luxurious yacht journeying through the Norwegian fjords, hosted by the affluent Bullmers. However, beneath the glimmering surface, danger lurks.
The Bullmers, eager to promote their philanthropic efforts, invite Lo along for a story about their charity work. But their generous act masks the underlying tension as secrets threaten to spill at every corner.
Characters and Performances
In addition to Knightley and Guy Pearce, the cast includes notable actors like Hannah Waddingham and David Morrissey, all portraying wealthy characters tangled in their own lives. The script, varying in consistency, leaves much to be desired in terms of character depth.
This should have been an engaging mystery, but instead, it feels like a chaotic mix of gimmicks. Lo, determined to uncover the truth, witnesses a mysterious splash and arguments aboard, igniting her instincts and setting off a series of events no one anticipates.
