English Translation of ‘Tumhari Auqaat Kya Hai, Piyush Mishra’ to Release in November
What are your thoughts on Piyush Mishra’s journey and the upcoming release?
New Delhi – The English version of Piyush Mishra’s autobiographical novel, “Tumhari Auqaat Kya Hai, Piyush Mishra,” is set to debut in November, as announced by HarperCollins India.
Originally published in Hindi by Rajkamal Prakashan in 2023, the book depicts Mishra’s journey from a challenging upbringing in Gwalior to his artistic endeavors at the National School of Drama. It offers an unfiltered view of his experiences with fame, betrayal, addiction, and self-doubt.
The translation is handled by journalist-translator Shillpi A Singh. Mishra expressed, “Writing this book was akin to traversing the various alleys of my life that shaped me. Each experience—be it theatre, cinema, or music—lent me a voice, tested my resolve, and ultimately, redeemed me.”
He further stated, “In ‘Tumhari Auqaat Kya Hai, Piyush Mishra,’ I have chronicled my life with utmost honesty, revealing vulnerabilities and questions often left unasked. This book serves not as an answer, but an invitation to reflect on your own narrative alongside mine.”
Hailing from a middle-class background in Gwalior, Mishra exhibited his artistic talents from a young age, engaging in music, painting, and poetry before delving into theatre. Initially hesitant to leave Delhi while his peers moved to Mumbai, he eventually made the shift in the early 2000s.
Mishra soon established himself as a notable figure in the film industry, contributing as an actor, songwriter, and scriptwriter in acclaimed productions such as Vishal Bhardwaj’s “Maqbool,” Anurag Kashyap’s “Gulaal,” and the celebrated “Gangs of Wasseypur,” where he served as the narrator.
In his book, through the character Santap Trivedi—often compared to Hamlet—Mishra presents a raw self-portrait of a man wrestling with societal expectations and the allure of fame, while exploring the meaning of life through art.
As described by Bushra Ahmed, executive editor at HarperCollins India, “This work transcends genres; it is part novel, part memoir, reflecting Mishra’s distinct voice. With beautiful imagery and compelling storytelling, it is a must-read for fans and enthusiasts of theatre and cinema.”
