Rasika Dugal: Why Women in Comedy Deserve More Opportunities
Rasika Dugal, recently featured in the dark comedy *Lord Curzon Ki Haveli*, shares insights on the male dominance in the genre and the impact of social media.
Rasika Dugal has recently delved into one of her preferred genres, comedy, with her latest film *Lord Curzon Ki Haveli*. While she found the experience thrilling, she points out that female actors often remain overlooked in this field.
“It was very exciting. I hope this dark comedy leads to more full-fledged comedic roles, as I am eager to pursue that avenue. It’s unfortunate that female actors don’t have the same opportunities in comedy as their male counterparts; women naturally possess humor, which we need in a patriarchal world,” she expressed, noting that only Sridevi and Juhi Chawla come to mind when thinking of female comedians in the industry.
Rasika emphasized that today’s actors face external pressures beyond their craft. “The world seems to have morphed into a reality show. Everyone is concerned about their presence on Instagram, which I find ironic. This phenomenon impacts our perceptions of global leadership and societal roles; it feels performative and often cringe-worthy, yet we still feel compelled to engage with it.”
She elaborated, “While social media can bring people together, it often fosters divisiveness. The lack of moderation in discussions is something I detest. The current polarization is reinforced by social media, but it still serves as a gateway to unique and entertaining content. I appreciate the humor that thrives online, which helps restore my faith in creativity.”
