In a heartfelt interview, Puneet revealed the depth of their friendship, stating, “Pankaj was not just my brother in ‘Mahabharat,’ but also off-screen. Our families have been interconnected for years. He courageously faced cancer multiple times, recovering initially, but sadly relapsing last year.”
Remembering their close friendship, he added, “We became brothers during the show, with playful nicknames—he called me ‘Puneetos,’ and I called him ‘Pinks.’ Just two days ago, I visited him. I’m still in disbelief; words fail to capture our times together.”

Pankaj Dheer is celebrated for his memorable portrayal of Karna in “Mahabharat.” His contributions to Indian television also include notable roles in “Chandrakanta,” “The Great Maratha,” and “Badho Bahu.” Beyond television, he appeared in various films, enhancing his acting credentials.
He passed on October 15, following extensive treatment for cancer. Producer Ashoke Pandit confirmed, “He had been hospitalized multiple times over the last few months.” Survived by his wife, Anita, and son, Nikitin, Pankaj’s final rites were attended by many celebrities including Salman Khan, who offered support to Nikitin during this difficult time.
