A Special Recognition for Nutan

During the event, Nutan was posthumously honored with a Cine Icon award. Her son, actor Mohnish Bahl, and granddaughter Pranutan accepted the award on her behalf. Reflecting on the significance of the moment, Pranutan expressed, “Since childhood, I’ve always felt like I represent her. I am the fifth generation in my family to be in the film industry, and I embrace the responsibility of being Nutan’s granddaughter.”

The Meaning Behind the Saree

Pranutan’s saree featured the titles of all six films for which Nutan won a Filmfare Award. “This saree is truly an ode to my grandmother. It has embroidered names of her award-winning films, including Bandini, Milan, Seema, Sujata, Saraswatichandra, and Meri Jung,” she noted with pride.

Nutan, a symbol of Bollywood’s golden era in the 50s and 60s, was the first actress to win six Filmfare Awards, five of which were for Best Actress— a record that stood for over six decades.

Continuing a Timeless Legacy

Pranutan shared her sentiments about carrying her grandmother’s and father’s legacy. “It’s a blessing to be surrounded by a craft that my family has contributed to. My goal is to honor that legacy, and I strive to never fall short.”

While discussing her experience as a ‘star kid’, she added, “Amid the sensationalism surrounding legacy families, I believe we’ve lost sight of its beauty. Growing up on my father’s sets instilled a passion to uphold our family’s artistic heritage. I want to embody the same fervor that my father and grandmother did.”
