Morrissey Disables Email for Smiths’ Song Rights Offers on Official Site

## Morrissey’s Decision on Smiths’ Music Rights
Morrissey has decided to halt an email solicitation aimed at finding investors for his rights to the Smiths’ music and other related intellectual properties. This announcement was shared on his official website, where he expressed his desire to sever ties with certain aspects of his past.
### Email Shutdown Due to Overwhelming Response
According to a recent post, the email address dedicated to this initiative has been disabled due to an overwhelming number of inquiries following Morrissey’s announcement. He expressed that while his affection for the Smiths’ music remains intact, he is exhausted by the negative and contentious figures involved in its business affairs.
He remarked, “After thirty-eight years of insults and abuse, Morrissey has had enough. All (or most) of the ‘eaves’ emails will be answered in time.” His statement clearly reflects a desire to move forward.
### What’s Up for Grabs?
The offer includes the “full and exclusive rights” to the Smiths’ name, all merchandise, artwork, sync rights, and recordings related to the band. Morrissey noted, “I have paid my rightful dues to these songs and these images,” indicating his emotional and artistic investment over the years.
He emphasized, “The songs are me – they are no one else – but they bring with them business communications that generate dread and spite.” This signifies his plea for personal well-being, particularly regarding his health.
### Tenuous Relationships and Past Reunion Talks
The Smiths disbanded in 1987, and since then, Morrissey and former guitarist Johnny Marr have navigated a complicated relationship. In recent developments, Marr declined an offer for a Smiths reunion that Morrissey had reportedly received.
While they once entertained the idea of reuniting during a 2008 meeting, the dialogue fizzled out. Marr recounted in his memoir, *Set the Boy Free*, that their communication abruptly ceased, returning to the status quo.
### Estranged Connections
Morrissey’s relationships with drummer Mike Joyce and bassist Andy Rourke have also been strained, particularly after a contentious lawsuit in 1996 over royalties. With Rourke’s passing in 2023, the possibility of a true reunion has become even more unattainable.
With Morrissey taking such significant steps to distance himself from these past connections, what do you think this means for his future musical endeavors?
